I got flowers today. It wasn%26#039;t my birthday or any other special day. We had our first argument last night. He said a lot of really cruel things that really hurt me. I know he is sorry and didn%26#039;t mean the things he said because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today. It wasn%26#039;t our anniversary or any other special day. Last night he threw me into a wall and started to choke me. It seemed like a nightmare. I couldn%26#039;t believe it was real. I woke up this morning sore %26amp; bruised all over.I know he must be sorry because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today and it wasn%26#039;t Mother%26#039;s Day or any other special day. Last night he beat me again. It was much worse than all the other times. If I leave him, what will I do? How will I take care of my kids? What about money? I%26#039;m afraid of him %26amp; scared to leave. But I know he must be sorry because he sent me flowers today.
I got flowers today. Today was a very special day. It was the day of my funeral. Last night he finally killed me
Have you ever heard this poem?
I %26#039;ve never heard it before i don%26#039;t feel right saying it%26#039;s beautiful because it%26#039;s to damn sad. I have none three separate couples personally where their husbands killed their wives. One was a dear friend of mine i went to school with. All three husbands would come home drunk and hit their wives for know reason and all three were scared to death to leave. One wife actually did leave and one month later he broke into her home while all her kids were in bed the kids were his. He had a knife with him and she tried to run up the stairs to protect her kids and on the way up he was stabbing her when he stopped she managed to get to the bed where her kids was and she fell on the bed and died. The oldest son who was 14 at the time was trying to stop his father from hurting his mom but he was out of his mind and was to strong for the boy. When the dad realize what he did he killed himself he told everyone when she left him if he can%26#039;t have her no one will.
Reply:Yes, I have read that poem. It was written by Paulette Kelly in 1992
Reply:This is a poetic fable. However, more than anything, it is a cry for help. If you (or whoever wrote this poem) needs help, please make sure the person gets the help. If you are not sure how to find or get help, please e-mail me.
Reply:Omg...Wow what a poem, sorry no I%26#039;ve never heard of it but that is deffinately a wrenching lil number..Where did you hear of it/see it?
Reply:Didn%26#039;t expect to find this poem here today...you made me pause and take a deep breath. Yes, I had read it before and cried when I did.
Reply:Nope. Doesn%26#039;t look like a poem to me... but I am not an English Lit major either...
Reply:I have never read this before, I can say it is a cry for help. not so many years ago I was in this type of relationship. Had it not been for the grace of God, I would probably not be here today. If you know of anyone in this situation, you should help them find a women of domestic violence counselor in their city. they have shelters and other means of helping women in this situation, of course the woman has to want help! for this to work to her advantage. Men who abuse their mates always make the women feel like they are nothing, break them to a point where they lose all respect for themselves and feel like there is nothing else or no-one else out there for them. Women in these cases have to realize they are important ! not only to themselves, but their children also. There is always help out there. Be strong, testify against them no matter what their threats are. Take a stand for yourself and your children. domestic violence councelors and shelters are out there, seek and find them.Your local law enforcement can help you with this also.
Reply:Yes. It shocked me reading it because at first you didn%26#039;t think it would end that way. It%26#039;s very strong though and it makes you think.
Reply:Yes, I have. It is a famous poem that is almost a daily reading for those of us who have been in abusive relationships. After I finally got up the nerve to leave.. I would cry my eyes out wondering if I did the right thing.. not for myself, I knew I had to get out.. but I felt so bad for my daughter (who I took with me and now have sole custody of her).. Right after it happened, I wanted so badly to put my head in the sand, believe his %26quot;I%26#039;m sorry%26#039;s%26quot; and go home.. someone sent this to me, and since then, when visiting abuse sites I have found this on almost every one.. it gives strength to those of us who know the true meaning of the words. Thanks for posting it again, because someone who needs it may see it here.
Reply:Wow, no I have never heard it before, but it is really moving. Thanks for sharing. Whoever wrote this knew what they were talking about.
I was married for five years to a man who used to abuse me in similar ways. It was only by the grace of God and the help of people who shared things with me such as this, that set me free. You never really know when one tiny thing you may share with someone may change their life. Hopefully you sharing this may help someone else out there.
Here%26#039;s something else you may like to read, I found it somewhere in a doctor%26#039;s office, written by an unknown author:
The first woman was created from the rib of a man.
She was not made from his head to top him,
Nor from his feet to be trampled upon by him,
But out of his side to be equal of him,
Under his arm to be protected,
And near his heart to be loved.
Reply:Something to think about the things women go threw is harsh...and to be admired when they fight back
Reply:I%26#039;ve never laid my eyes on this poem in particular, but the ending to me isn%26#039;t in the least surprising. This world has distastefully grown into a cold, depressing domain and the unfortunate thing about this is the fact that we%26#039;ve trapped ourselves. My heart goes out to all the abused men and women out there because I myself have gone through many (and still do) ways of abuse. My best advice is to tell someone you trust and the rest will figure itself out.
Reply:No I hadn%26#039;t and it is a sad poem and unfortunately it writes of very real situations.
