Can you use Calla Lilys for a wedding?

I really love the intense colour of the deep red and blackish purple calla lilys and would love to use them for my wedding. My partner said that lilys were funeral or %26quot;death%26quot; flowers, but I thought only the white ones were...... please help!!

Can you use Calla Lilys for a wedding?
yes, they%26#039;re very beautiful, but they also look really dirty if you have my kind of mind...lol
Reply:Yes,you can use what ever flowers you like.
Reply:Check out Davids bridal they have several calla lily favors

Reply:Sorry, your partner has a valid point. White and purplish Calla Lilly flowers are used for funerals, although some people disregard this custom and choose them for a wedding. Whatever you both will agree upon goes; have a happy wedding and a loving relationship!
Reply:Yes, they are used in bridal bouquets. Right now a major florist service is showing red roses with white callas for Valentine%26#039;s day. Very nice

Beware, callas are very pricey.......they run $3 US a stem wholesale so easily $6 a piece retail plus arrangement fees. But you only get married once.....

They also come in yellow and a pink.........yellow no, for weddings, but pink might be OK as well.

The deep purple might work with the %26quot;silver%26quot; roses....which are more lavender than silver. Hard to say without the calla in hand to determine it%26#039;s exact hue. Maybe combine with ivory roses to offset the %26quot;death%26quot; look. Check bridal magazines to see what they are using these days.......you might be right in fashion.
Reply:I love calla lilies too.

And its your wedding... you can use what ever you want. The lilies will last longer than a lot of other flowers also.

As far as %26#039;death%26#039; flowers....????

No, I wouldn%26#039;t view calla lilies as death flowers....

But, better go with something that you both can agree on....
Reply:Of course you CAN. It%26#039;s your wedding, do whatever you want to make it your special day.
Reply:White Calla lilies used to be very commonly used for weddings. In the language of flowers, they mean %26quot;magnificent beauty%26quot;.

They are an elegant, graceful flower, usually held in bunches of a dozen or so, with the long stems tied with a ribbon.

The red lily means %26quot;high souled aspirations%26quot; and purple flowers (like lilacs) invoke the %26quot;first emotions of love%26quot;. Hardly funereal sentiments!
Reply:Show him a pic of the coloured ones that you like and ask if he%26#039;s OK with them - he%26#039;s probably only seen them in white.

As you say, there%26#039;s no shortage of other flowers if he still doesn%26#039;t feel comfortable, but calla lilies have been used for weddings for a long time - my grandmother had them, and my grandparents only just died - 2 weeks apart - last year after 60 very happy years.
Reply:no matter now since your partner brought it up -you%26#039;ve got to choose another flower.
Reply:It%26#039;s your wedding and it is all about love and togetherness. Calla lillies are fine. Go for it!
Reply:Ask him what kind of flowers he likes...and see if you couldn%26#039;t compromise with a small amount of his.....shorter, and yours being longer...would be stately...and eye catching...
Reply:A wedding planner would tell you that you may use anything that you like, and you may. It%26#039;s traditional for the bride to stick with white flowers. Have you considered having the bridesmaids carry the lilies? It%26#039;s more common now to introduce the color into the arrangements at the front of the church and with the wedding party. Don%26#039;t sweat it. Be satisfied and be happy.
Reply:My brother had them at his wedding %26amp; they looked wonderful. it is your wedding you should have it however you want it, unless your partner says no %26amp; you might get in a fight over it... the importance of a wedding is to get married not the actual wedding. so if your partner is ok with it then do it but it is not worth getting in a fight over. you know?
Reply:They would be beautiful and you shouldn%26#039;t limit yourself to white. If your colors come in the same color as your Calla Lily%26#039;s go for it. Very Elegant.
Reply:My friends had a HUGE fight about the flowers at their wedding. They couldn%26#039;t agree. They couldn%26#039;t compromise. It was both their weddings and neither would work with the other in figuring things out. They lost track of the real reason for the wedding. Needless to say, the wedding plans got worse and more fights broke out. Long story short, they did not end up getting married. Unbelievable.
Reply:calla lilies are very nice. also if you cant agree on calla lilies try canna lilies. most are orange, but there is a species witha black foliage and tall white blooms
Reply:According to the link information I found, Calla Lilies are one of the most popular flowers used in bridal bouquets and arrangements nowadays. It%26#039;s symbol stands for purity and has other symbolisms with bringing light into one%26#039;s life.

It%26#039;s your wedding and if you and your fiance are on the same page about what the flower is symbolizing to you, don%26#039;t worry about what others may think. If he still believes that it only stands for death, tell him it%26#039;s a symbol of your past and bring in another flower to represent your future.

I hope these help you and that you have a beautiful wedding and happy marriage.

Good luck!
Reply:of-course you can... you can use anything that you think is beautiful... I LOVE Lillis... and always have them in the house...

Talk to your florist, they will help you find other flowers to go with these and make stunning bouquets ..

Congrats and good luck with the planning :)
Reply:If you%26#039;re the one who has the final decision on what flowers to have at your wedding, I say, follow what got you there to begin with--your heart.

If you love Calla Lily%26#039;s, go for it.

They%26#039;re gorgeous.

And, if your boyfriend keeps bringing up the %26quot;death%26quot; thing, tell him that in a way marriage IS a form of death.

It%26#039;s the %26quot;death%26quot; of being single.

Calla Lily%26#039;s would be perfect!
Reply:calla lilies are my favorite flower too. and yes they are used for funerals but they are always used for weddings too and they are beautiful. so use them and its your wedding hes shouldnt be having any decisions....lol.
Reply:Beautiful, and original, too.

How about a satin wedding gown to go with that?

Hollywood/Retro!

WOW!

Good luck.

(and do what YOU want to do -

it is YOUR wedding!)
Reply:You can use whatever you like, it%26#039;s your wedding.
