In "The Departed" I am wondering if anyone thinks that Costello is Sullivan's and/or Costigan's father?

Costello just %26quot;happens%26quot; to notice Damon%26#039;s character at the store and asks him if he lives with his grandma, blah blah blah, then gives him lots of stuff and says come see me...it seems like he could possibly be his dad with a slick move like that, where he can help mold and shape his son without ever having to take true responsibility. And obviously Damon alludes to that when he kills him, like potentially he has figured it out.

And, I think in the beginning of the movie, it looks like there are flowers from %26quot;F. Costello%26quot; at his mom%26#039;s funeral. Why would that be?! Yes he has a dad that worked at the airport, but we all know that sometimes the dad is secretly someone else...and didn%26#039;t Frank say something to him about his father, and sort of dissed him?

No doubt I am confused by lots of this movie, but I just kept thinking all along that he would be exposed as one of their dads by the end...

In %26quot;The Departed%26quot; I am wondering if anyone thinks that Costello is Sullivan%26#039;s and/or Costigan%26#039;s father?
Maybe Sullivan. *MAYBE* but not Costigan.

Costigan%26#039;s father worked as a baggage handler at the airport.

Costello probably sent the flowers to the funeral because of their other connections. I mean Billy%26#039;s other relatives - like his %26#039;Uncle Jackie%26#039;. It was made clear that Billy had some seedy relatives, except for his father.
Reply:I can see Sullivan being Costello%26#039;s son. Its a possibility. Report It

Reply:could be, but i figured Damon%26#039;s charcter was just a kid and with no dad had no direction. Leo%26#039;s character however, I figured something was going on because I saw that too at the funeral, but they never alluded to it again. I%26#039;m watching it again, so I%26#039;ll check.
Reply:i would have to disagree, but I see what you%26#039;re saying.Do you think that when Costello told Cosgtigan that his dad would kill him if he were still alive and saw them talking during the scene with the nun, he was talking about himself? Dad was the name Sullivan called Costello as a contact name most likely due to Costello%26#039;s continued help over the years. The relationship was started in Sullivan%26#039;s youth because of his connection with Sullivan%26#039;s dad. As the %26quot;Godfather%26quot; of the Irish community it would be natural for him to be aware of who most people were. Both character%26#039;s fathers are well defined in the movie and there is no reason to believe it was misleading in this regard.
Reply:well i thought bout it...and i think sullivan is just a neighborhood boy everyone knows in the area.....Costello even said in the movie..%26quot;you%26#039;re _____blanks____ boy%26quot;....he was talkin bout his father

But costigan, the reason costello left flowers at her grave was because he knew his father and most lily knew his mother!...thats the only logical reason...but they leave it mysterious so people can use there own imaginations!

make up
