Does the Bible say that Dead people can communicate with the living?

I sometimes see people talking to their deceased love one at the funeral service. Do you think that a dead person can hear and know what's going on in the world? Can they see,and smell the flowers that family members bring to their gravesite?

What does the Bible say about this?

Does the Bible say that Dead people can communicate with the living?
It is appointed unto men ONCE to die. He breaths no more; he returns to the earth, that VERY DAY his thoughts perish (Heb.9:27, Ps.146:4 below).

Heb.9:27 And as IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE (Ps.146:4 below), but after this the judgment (Re.20:12-13, Dan.7:10):

Ps.146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth (Dan.12:2); in that very day his thoughts perish (Job 7:9-10).

Reply:perhaps the most famous place would be the parable of the beggar and the rich man... they both die and the rich guy went to hades and begged to get to talk to his brothers and warn them but was told he could not and if they didn't listen to moses they wouldnt listen to someone even if they rose from the dead

God is everywhere and can look on your heart and understands you... anything else in creation is finite and ... no promise I know of that they can hear or do anything for you

the one and only place I can think of would be the sotry of when King Saul went to the witch of Endor... (Endora??) ... and she was shockedbecause the spirit of Samual did appear... but that appeared to be a very special case... and in the end... it was the night before Saul's death... i.e. don't do this at home... ok.. It appeared that Saul hit an all time spiritual low by consulting spirits and God punished Saul for not turning to God
Reply:Yes they can
Reply:the bible is very clear on the matter.the dead no nothing their sons or daughters come to shame or fame and they perceive it not! dont be fooled! people often try to talk to the dead because they want to say they are sorry for wrongs they had done to the deceased or they want to say how much they love them ,miss them or many things.the dead person does not hear it, sometimes you may feel better just getting it off your chest but if they are dead it is too late,do what you can for the living and to GOD give the glory!
Reply:well the bible says that if you open a door to darkness then you are in darkness! so if you start to talk to them then i believe that they can talk back. It is like witchcraft. Do you no what i mean. i hear people talking to the devil. like i was in walmart with my mom. And i say this old lady talking to herself. She was fighting with sombody. and she was moving her arms like she was punching the air. I asked my mom what was worng with her and she said that she was atlking to the devil. i wanted to pray for her but i didnt want her to kill me. do you get what i am saying. Sorry if you dont but i am sure that you are smart enough to figure it out!
Reply:no. that's just Catholic beliefs, people's hopes, and venting your feelings without fear of judgement. no, they don't communicate to the living. Samuel was allowed to 'talk' to Saul, but that was basically God allowing the image of him to appear on earth. it's not a natural occurance. remember the parable of the rich man and lazarus? if they don't believe the living, no point in letting them see the dead.

and no, when your image appears, you don't have a body, your soul is just interacting with human spirits. psychics can't really call up dead people.
Reply:Job 7:9-10 says, "As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him anymore". So, once dead people leave this earth, they do not come back and talk to their relative. When you see people talking to their deceased, they are actually talking to demons. Demons will come and prey on people's grief over the loss of a loved one so that their hearts and minds won't heal from the loss. As for Saul asking the witch to raise up Samuel from the dead. The witch did not have the power to raise Samuel from the dead, but God allowed Samuel to come back, because Samuel is considered "living" and not dead, even though he went to the grave. God is the God of the living and not the dead. I know that 's deep.
Reply:Yes, Moses communicated with Jesus (before the Resurrection), and the witch lady called up Samuel to speak with Saul.
Reply:Yes. Mat17:[3] And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Eli'jah, talking with him.

Cheers :-)
Reply:NO, they can NOT

Read Ecclesiastes 9:5

Ezek. 18:4: “Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul* that is sinning—it itself will die.” (*Hebrew reads “the ne′phesh.” KJ, AS, RS, NE, and Dy render it “the soul.” Some translations say “the man” or “the person.”)

Matt. 10:28: “Do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul [or, “life”]; but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul* and body in Gehenna.” (*Greek has the accusative case of psy·khe′. KJ, AS, RS, NE, TEV, Dy, JB, and NAB all render it “soul.”)

Acts 3:23: “Indeed, any soul [Greek, psy·khe′] that does not listen to that Prophet will be completely destroyed from among the people.”
