On opening his new store, a man received a bouquet of flowers. He became dismayed on reading the enclosed card, that it expressed "Deepest Sympathy". While puzzling over the message, his telephone rang. It was the florist, apologizing for having sent the wrong card.
Storekeeper: "Oh, it's alright. I'm a businessman and I understand how these things can happen."
Florist: "But, I accidentally sent your card to a funeral party."
Storekeeper: "Well, what did it say?"
Florist: “Congratulations on your new location."

What do you think of my poem "House of the Dead: My Home Too"?
I looked around
The sky was interesting
The moon was in the white sky and the sun was going down
I looked around
There were comforters and comfortees
I was suppose to be a comforter
I looked around like a tourist
as if the funeral-to-be was a spectacle
I was in my role of observer
and I saw my co-worker’s white face
without makeup was still quite pretty
Did her grief add to or subtract from her beauty?
I saw the mounds of dirt
some with flowers and some without
I tried not to think what it meant
what those mounds of dirt meant
The wife of the dead man fainted
I had been told that she didn’t love her husband
Then I remembered my friend telling me
the dead man took too long to die
the family prayed for his death
What do you think of my poem "House of the Dead: My Home Too"?
Those are interesting lines. It's almost a "stream of consciousness" composition instead of poetry. You got the mood, atmosphere and thoughts right to make me see the graveyard through your eyes.
Thanks for sharing it with all of us.

Have you ever made a serious faux paux?????
On opening his new store, a man received a bouquet of flowers. He became dismayed on reading the enclosed card, that it expressed "Deepest Sympathy". While puzzling over the message, his telephone rang. It was the florist, apologizing for having sent the wrong card.
Storekeeper: "Oh, it's alright. I'm a businessman and I understand how these things can happen."
Florist: "But, I accidentally sent your card to a funeral parlor."
Storekeeper: "Well, what did it say?"
Florist: “Congratulations on your new location."
Have you ever made a serious faux paux?????
I will always remember the Faux Paux my friend made. I come from a large family. She was meeting my family for the 1st time and having a conversation with my mother. we were about 13 or 14. They were talking about the Aquarium. My friend said I love to look at the octopuses (testicles) she obviously meant tentacles. Fortunately my mother just smiled to herself, ignored the verbal oops .. and went on as though she said the right word. My friend and I still laugh about it to this day.

Does the Bible say that Dead people can communicate with the living?
I sometimes see people talking to their deceased love one at the funeral service. Do you think that a dead person can hear and know what's going on in the world? Can they see,and smell the flowers that family members bring to their gravesite?
What does the Bible say about this?
Does the Bible say that Dead people can communicate with the living?
It is appointed unto men ONCE to die. He breaths no more; he returns to the earth, that VERY DAY his thoughts perish (Heb.9:27, Ps.146:4 below).
Heb.9:27 And as IT IS APPOINTED UNTO MEN ONCE TO DIE (Ps.146:4 below), but after this the judgment (Re.20:12-13, Dan.7:10):
Ps.146:4 His breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth (Dan.12:2); in that very day his thoughts perish (Job 7:9-10).

God is everywhere and can look on your heart and understands you... anything else in creation is finite and ... no promise I know of that they can hear or do anything for you
the one and only place I can think of would be the sotry of when King Saul went to the witch of Endor... She was fighting with sombody. and she was moving her arms like she was punching the air. I asked my mom what was worng with her and she said that she was atlking to the devil. i wanted to pray for her but i didnt want her to kill me. do you get what i am saying. Sorry if you dont but i am sure that you are smart enough to figure it out!
Reply:no. that's just Catholic beliefs, people's hopes, and venting your feelings without fear of judgement. no, they don't communicate to the living. Samuel was allowed to 'talk' to Saul, but that was basically God allowing the image of him to appear on earth. it's not a natural occurance. remember the parable of the rich man and lazarus? if they don't believe the living, no point in letting them see the dead.
and no, when your image appears, you don't have a body, your soul is just interacting with human spirits. psychics can't really call up dead people.
Reply:Job 7:9-10 says, "As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more. He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him anymore". So, once dead people leave this earth, they do not come back and talk to their relative. When you see people talking to their deceased, they are actually talking to demons. Demons will come and prey on people's grief over the loss of a loved one so that their hearts and minds won't heal from the loss. As for Saul asking the witch to raise up Samuel from the dead. The witch did not have the power to raise Samuel from the dead, but God allowed Samuel to come back, because Samuel is considered "living" and not dead, even though he went to the grave. God is the God of the living and not the dead. I know that 's deep.
Reply:Yes, Moses communicated with Jesus (before the Resurrection), and the witch lady called up Samuel to speak with Saul.

Read Ecclesiastes 9:5
Ezek. 18:4: “Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul* that is sinning—it itself will die.” (*Hebrew reads “the ne′phesh.” KJ, AS, RS, NE, and Dy render it “the soul.” Some translations say “the man” or “the person.”)
Matt. 10:28: “Do not become fearful of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul [or, “life”]; but rather be in fear of him that can destroy both soul* and body in Gehenna.” (*Greek has the accusative case of psy·khe′. KJ, AS, RS, NE, TEV, Dy, JB, and NAB all render it “soul.”)
Acts 3:23: “Indeed, any soul [Greek, psy·khe′] that does not listen to that Prophet will be completely destroyed from among the people.”

A friend, mentor, boss...?
of mine just died recently. i owe him a lot for being a one of a kind teacher to me, and a good friend too.
As he was already retired, it got difficult to hook up with him as i was working my butt off these days.
I wasnt able to attend his funeral, for no one was able to inform me, until i called up an officemate/ buddy.
Question: if i bring flowers for him to his grave, would he be able to appreciate my respects to him as a friend???
A friend, mentor, boss...?
I honestly don't know the answer to that. There are things I could say ... but who really knows?
This I DO know though ... if he has family anywhere, take the flowers and a card with a letter in it to them, telling them all that their loved one meant to you. He definitely would have appreciated that, and they will also!
Beyond that ... be what he was to you to other people through your life. In that way you will be carrying on his legacy.
Blessings to you!
Reply:Of course and I am sorry for your loss!!
Reply:It will certainly do YOUR heart a lot of good to pay your final respects to your friend.
As an aside, perhaps you could contact his family and pay your respects to them as well?
Reply:Of course he would and I am sure that he knew all along that you appreciated him. Take flowers to his grave and pay your respects and remember the good times you guys shared. God bless
Reply:Of course! The same thing happened to me. This woman was a friend, mentor and a boss. She was there for me and taught me so much. Then I went off to school and ive never had the time to see her or anything. I always put it off becuase i was so busy. When she passed i felt so bad. i could attend the funeral also cause noone called. I brought a bbok we passed to each other back and forth and flowers.
Reply:Always believe that the person who has gone before us is able to comprehend what is happening here. It's all about faith, hope, caring, and sincerity. Your bringing the flowers is so important, not just out of respect for them, but for you as well. You lost someone you cared about, so why not show your feelings of loss in a way that you choose to. It is good..........So sorry........
Reply:You know, I would not take flowers to his grave. I would contact his family and tell them about his mentoring etc.. and ask where he would have liked monies to be donated..
At funerals they say in lieu of flowers donations can be made to:
Cancer Society
Leukemia Foundation
Humane Society
etc...
His family would love to know about the wonderful mentor friendship effect their father had .. you should contact the family.... my opinion..

What is the etiquette for donating to a charity at request of deceased's family?
My husband and I are recently married and it is the holiday season. We are very short on money.
Today I just found out that a girl I used to babysit died of a drug overdose or of something drug-related. I used to be best friends with her sister and as the family lived down the street, we were always at each others' houses. I live in another state now and can't go there, plus the funeral is family only/private.
In the obituary, they ask for donations for a drug treatment facility. I think it would be more suitable to give to this facility in the deceased's name than it would be to send flowers to the family. What is the etiquette for doing this? Do I donate and also send a card to the family? I don't care if they know that I donated or not, but I want them to know that I am thinking of them. I am not sure if the facility will give a list of donors to the family. What is appropriate in this situation? My last name has also changed; how do I sign?
Thanks,
Tara
What is the etiquette for donating to a charity at request of deceased's family?
Tara, you are precious to take such care in doing this in your friend's memory. You can donate directly, you can ask if they send a card to the family and because they've been so close, you can send a card of encouragement/sympathy with some of your fond memories to help them remember beyond the pain that this young woman had friends, etc. In that you can mention that it was on your heart to help prevent this from happening to another family and so you sent a donation in her name to:
Keep shining kiddo, you sound like you really have it all, heart, smarts and empathy.
Reply:Most charities I've donated to at the request of the family automatically notify the family of my donation. I know they do because I then receive a thank you card from the family. I simply send a check to the charity with a note "in memory of" or "in celebration of the life of" and then I name the person. If your maiden name is Jones and your married name is Smith, I would sign the card Tara Jones Smith.
Reply:You can send a card, without mentioning the donation. When my father-in-law died, we requested donations to the hospice organization. The organization sent us a list of donors as they received them. They also sent very nice thank you letters to the people that donated. Just include all the information that you want in the letter to the facility when you send the donation. I would sign your name as first name-old last name - new last name.
Sorry about your loss,
Reply:You can make a donation to the facility and let them know it is in honor of your firend. Then you can send a sympathy card to the family of your friend to let them know whatever you'd like (such as "i'm so sorry for your loss" "I heard what happened and made a donation to the facility you indicated in the obituary" or whatever you'd like. You can also make a phone call to the family to let them know your feelings.
As to how to sign. I would suggest signing whatever you send the family in the name they knew you as. If you sign it as your married name, be sure to indicate somewhere who you are so they will make the connection.
Reply:When my son died, we didn't make any request of any kind, but a very good friend said she had made a donation to a certain place in his name. I'm glad she told me, because I never received any notice from the place. If she hadn't told me, I never would have known to thank her.
The mother of a friend of my son's wrote me the nicest letter telling about her memories of my son when he visited their home.
So I would send a sympathy card for sure and tell them you made the donation in her name, and even write a note telling something about your memories of the girl. This is so meaningful to the family. And sign your name Tara (Jones) Smith. Also be sure to put your return address on the envelope.
So sad when this happens to young people, and so hard for the families.
Reply:I won't donate. I will donate to the charity of MY choice.
Reply:You write to the centre making a bequest in the name of the deceased, asking for the acknowledgement to be sent to her family. You can sign it in your married name - Mrs Jane Jones (nee Smith), or just as Jane Smith.
Reply:my friend died of an overdose and her family asked for donations in her name, too. call the facility and make the donation, using your married name. send a card and sign your name, and just put your maiden name in parenthesis
Reply:Honestly, it's best not to tell them. Just to give a little money. And call the family. In about two weeks, perhapse. When everyone else has called. Just to say you're sorry and what you remember of the lass.
But really, talking about the money... it's not in the best taste.
Reply:I would make the donation that I could afford to the charity of their request, in lieu of flowers. Then I would send the family a sympathy card and say that I made a donation in loving memory of their daughter to that charity.
Reply:Send a donation in memory of the deceased in your name with your maiden name in brackets i.e Mrs Amy Johnson (nee Andrews)
You can certainly also send a card to the family...
A lot of places have a special donation card that they will give to the family of the deceased.
I think a lot of families do this now as the donation is a useful gift and they may not want all kinds of flowers to deal with...
I am sorry for your loss.

A Christmas Note From Mom?
Dear Darling Son and That Person You Married:
Merry Christmas to you and please don't worry. I'm just fine considering that I can't breathe or eat. The important thing is that you have a nice holiday, thousands of miles away from your ailing mother. I've sent along my last ten dollars in this card, which I hope you'll spend on my grandchildren. God knows their mother never buys them anything nice. They look so thin in their pictures, poor babies.
Thank you so much for the Christmas flowers, dear boy. I put them in the freezer so they'll stay fresh for my grave. Which reminds me -- we buried Grandma last week. I know she died years ago, but I got to yearning for a good funeral so Aunt Viola and I dug her up and had the services all over again. I would have invited you but I know that woman you live with would have never let you come. I bet she's never even watched that videotape of my hemorrhoid surgery, has she?
Well son, it's time for me to crawl off to bed now. I lost my cane beating off muggers last week, but don't you worry about me. I'm also getting used to the cold since they turned my heat off and am grateful because the frost on my bed numbs the constant pain. Now don't you even think about sending any more money because I know you need it for those expensive family vacations you take every year. Give my love to my darling grandbabies and my regards to whatever-her-name-is -- the one with the black roots who stole you screaming from my bosom.
Merry Christmas.
Love, Mom
